Announcing the Opening of The Surry Seafood Company at Gray’s Creek Marina
May 6, 2016
Surry, VA—One characteristic that makes Surry County truly special is its location on the James River. Surry County purchased and renovated the Gray's Creek Marina to provide much needed public access to the river. Renovation efforts have included the installation of a new boat launch facility, launch for kayaks and canoes, restaurant facility, marina store, bed and breakfast facilities, and supporting utilities. The next phase of the renovation will include the construction of floating docks, boat slips and a fishing pier. When the full development is complete it will include nature trails, picnic facilities, wetlands overlook and additional parking.
In April 2016, Surry County leased the marina property to an experienced team of operators who had successfully run a similar facility on the Chickahominy River. With their expertise, the county feels confident that the Gray’s Creek Marina will become a wonderful destination.
The Surry Seafood Company will be open seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every seat in the restaurant, and on the adjoining outdoor deck, offers a breathtaking view of Gray’s Creek. The facility and staff will be able to accommodate large parties and special events. The menu will include a wide variety of seafood in addition to steaks, burgers, salads and more. The Ship’s Store will feature unique crafts from local vendors in addition to bait and tackle supplies, boating supplies, drinks and snacks. The Captain’s Quarters include four efficiency units containing one bedroom, one bathroom, kitchenette, living area and private balcony overlooking Gray’s Creek. In-room meal delivery will be available as are additional package options.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Marina on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11:00am.
