up the creek with a paddle

Saturday, September 11, 2021

Reserve your free tickets today for this guided, interpretive kayaking tour of Historic Gray's Creek in Surry, Virginia.

Experience the unique history and natural beauty of Gray’s Creek in Surry, Virginia.  Designated as part of Virginia’s Scenic Rivers Program in 2020, Gray’s Creek was first navigated by the Indigenous People of the coastal region and later explored by Captain John Smith of Jamestown.  An attempted second colonial fort began construction by Smith along the creek in 1609; and, although never completed, the raised earthworks remain on the property of Smith’s Fort Plantation.

Guided, interpretive tours will begin next to the Surry Seafood Company where there is event parking and a bathhouse available.  Gray’s Creek is sheltered from strong coastal winds and currents; this   allows guests access to marshes that support various species of wildlife and waterfowl.  Your guide will share how this tranquil waterway is steeped in history and will lead guests in a brief 9-11 remembrance ceremony on Saturday during the hour-long trip.

Guests can enjoy a delicious meal at The Surry Seafood Restaurant upon their return.
