Surry County Victim Services Program

Assistance with victim services is available through the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney. The Surry County Victim/Witness Program serves to ensure that victims and witnesses of criminal activities receive fair and compassionate treatment while participating in the criminal justice process.

The Surry County Victim/Witness Program strives to reduce the trauma of a crime by empowering and assisting crime victims, witnesses, and their family members, in reconstructing their lives through advocacy, support, information, and referrals.

In recognition of the Commonwealth’s concern for the victims and witnesses of crime, it is the purpose of this office to ensure that the full impact of a crime, is brought to the attention of the Commonwealth’s Attorney; that crime victims and witnesses are treated with dignity, respect, and sensitivity; and that their privacy is protected to the extent permissible under law. It is further purposed that victims and witnesses are informed of the rights provided to them under the laws of the Commonwealth; that they receive authorized services as appropriate; and that they can be heard by law-enforcement agencies, attorneys for the Commonwealth, corrections agencies, and the judiciary at all stages of the criminal justice process.
