Surry County Clean Up Month
Surry County Clean-Up Month is held during the month of April each year. During this month, clean-up activities will be encouraged through social media outlets and undertaken throughout the county by staff and citizen volunteers. These activities will include individual and organized group efforts to clean along roadsides, in neighborhoods, parks, and around county facilities.
April 2023 activities include:
WasteLessWednesdays - #WASTELESSWEDNESDAYS is a non-profit organization that encourages consumers to try at least one new way to reduce waste and recycle more every week. Join us in participating in #wastelesswednesdays by following our County Social Media Platforms (Facebook and Instagram) for simple things you can do to lighten your environmental footprint.
Saturday, April 8th and 22nd have been established as major debris collection days throughout the county. The County Solid Waste Collection Crews will provide special refuse collection containers at the following locations and times for citizens to dispose of appliances, furniture, yard debris, and scrap building material. Staff will remain on site until the containers are full and must be removed so get there early!
- Saturday, April 8th - 9:00 AM-12:00 PM - Bacons Castle Grocery (Rt 10 & Rt 617) and the Old L.P. Jackson School Site.
- Saturday, April 22nd - 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Claremont Fire Station (28 Mystic Ave.) Pineview Road Collection Site (off Rt 40), Claremont Beach Villa Road, and Goodson Path Collection Site (Rt 10 West)
Saturday, April 22, 2023, is EARTH DAY! The Surry County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a clean-up event hosted by the Hampton Roads Winery from 10AM-12PM. Friday, April 28, 2023, has been established as "Surry County Employee Clean-Up Day" and will involve county staff volunteers' participation in our annual clean-up event along county roads and around county facilities.
